Lakpa Rita Sherpa
Sirdar, Base Camp Manager
I am from America originally. In 1989, I moved with my wife from California to Melbourne, where we have raised three sons.
I have always loved the outdoors and started trekking with the Boy Scouts in the 1970s. It was in those early days that I learned the essentials of wilderness survival including: the importance of good equipment, bringing an adequate supply of toilet paper and never sharing a tent with your brother when you’re going to have beans for dinner. I only started climbing higher mountains in 2010, beginning with Mt Elbrus. Mt Elbrus is a gentle introduction, because you get to ride a chair lift most of the way to the top.
I have made my career in the IT industry. My hobby is The HP Computer Museum (www.hpmuseum.net). Collecting old computers is a lot of fun, especially if you like meeting other geeks and nerds from different parts of the world (a lot like climbing, really).
This is my second crack at Everest. In 2014, I was turned around along with all the other climbers after the tragic avalanche disaster. This is my first trip with Alpine Ascents. Going on such a complex expedition with a new guiding company is not normally a smart idea, but AA’s reputation really does stand apart. The guys have been terrific about working with me on my specific interests. I predict a great time will be had by all in the company of the wonderful people of the Khumbu Valley.
Siobhan lives in San Francisco with her husband Terry and their four children. She has been climbing all her life and began high altitudes expeditions 20 years ago. Easy access to the Sierras and North Cascades, makes climbing Rainier and Shasta a weekend affair. She has climbed Denali several times, Aconcagua and Mt Everest. This climb is the beginning of a life time commitment to helping bring clean water to impoverished areas of the world – water for Nepal has already raised $150,000 which will bring clean water to over 4,000 Nepalese. Please join us in this effort http://mycharitywater.org/everestagain
